  44. This page describes the various documents located in the directory named
  45. /pub/Computer-Music-Journal on the Internet ftp server mitpress.mit.edu at
  46. MIT. These files can be accessed via the World-Wide Web, Internet ftp file
  47. transfer, or the gopher protocol; they are available to anyone provided that
  48. the copyright notices included in them are maintained.

  50. The paragraphs below describe the contents of the Computer Music Journal
  51. archives and provide WWW hypertext pointers for viewing the various documents
  52. stored there. For a general description of Computer Music Journal and

  82. What is Computer Music Journal ?
  83.  
  84. Computer Music Journal (CMJ) is a quarterly Journal that covers a wide range
  85. of topics related to digital audio signal processing and electroacoustic
  86. music. It is published (as hard copy) by MIT Press and is now in its 20th
  87. year. The topics addressed in Computer Music Journal include:
  88.  
  89.    o software and hardware for digital audio signal processing;
  90.    o electroacoustic, electronic, and computer music;
  91.    o software for music notation, printing, and archival systems;
  92.    o music representation languages and music cognition;
  93.    o new physical performance interfaces;
  94.    o sound localization and 3-D sound spatialization;
  95.    o sound in computer user interfaces and virtual realities;
  96.    o aesthetics of contemporary music, and other areas.

  98. Each issue of Computer Music Journal is between 100 and 140 pages and
  99. includes:

  101.    o Editor's Notes, letters, and discussions of recent topics;
  102.    o news and announcements relevant to the computer music community;
  103.    o five or more feature articles--technical or aesthetical essays,
  104.      tutorials, surveys, or interviews;
  105.    o five or more reviews of events, recordings, publications, and products;
  106.      and
  107.    o extensive new product announcements.

  109. The editors of Computer Music Journal also produce a CD once a year with
  110. musical and sound examples related to Journal articles. These CDs are
  111. available separately from the CMJ subscription.
